  • Current or voltage signal

For detecting the speed of a wheel set, axle pulse generators are commonly used. Our pulse generator type NA56 uses two speed sensors which provide independent output signals for various applications, such as speed detection, comfort protection, or event recording and odometry.

The system is particularly robust due to the combination of optimised bearing and mechanical structure, providing a clear and interference-free output signal even under strong vibrations. Inside the housing, as standard, a toothed wheel (or as option a magnetic pole wheel) is installed, which is connected to the axis of the wheel set. This makes the system impervious to external influences or contamination.

Two speed sensors are installed in the axle pulse generator. These provide different output signals depending on the sensor type. With the integrated toothed wheel, 100 pulses are detected per revolution. In applications where no pulse multiplication is necessary, optionally a status signal for detecting standstill or direction of rotation, or galvanically isolated output signals can also be provided.

Each integrated sensor offers the following options

Without pulse multiplication, 100 pulses per revolution:

2 speed signals with 90° phase shift, voltage, + status signal (standstill or rotational direction, cf. Fig. A, example with standstill signal with F < 1 Hz).

2 speed signals with 90° phase shift, voltage (cf. Fig. A, but without status signal S).

With pulse multiplication (multiple or fraction of 100):

2 speed signals with 90° phase shift, voltage (see Fig. D, N1 original signal, Q1 and Q2 multiplied by a factor of 4).

2 speed signals with 90° phase shift, voltage, + inverted speed signal respectively.
