Wheel Slide Protection

What speed sensors are used for in wheel slide protection

A speed sensor measures the rotational speed of the wheelset and provides the wheel speed signals required by the braking system. In wheel slide protection systems, these signals are used to detect rapid changes or differences in wheel speed. The braking force can then be adjusted to help prevent the wheels from locking and sliding on the rails.

Noris speed sensors of the FAH52 product family are designed for demanding wheelset applications. Their robust stainless-steel design and various cable protection options provide reliable operation under harsh environmental conditions. Depending on the variant, the sensors offer protection classes IP66, IP68 and IP69.

Our FAHI52, FAHU52 and FAHS52 speed sensors

Speed sensors for wheel slide protection

The FAHI52 speed sensor

Optimised for current output signals

Robust: Current output signals are less susceptible to electromagnetic interference that could affect measurement. Wire-break monitoring can also be implemented easily.

Reliable: Galvanically isolated output signals support redundant system architectures and can also supply two independent systems.

Approved: The FAHI52 speed sensor is approved for various wheel slide protection applications and provides reliable wheelset speed measurement.

The FAHS52 speed sensor

Standstill detection with 7 VDC status voltage

Convenient: The FAHS52 provides an additional status signal using a 7 VDC status voltage. The sensor evaluates the signals internally and indicates standstill, eliminating the need for additional customer-side evaluation.

The FAHU52 speed sensor

Up to four measuring channels in one housing

Flexible: The FAHU52 combines up to four measuring channels in a single housing. Voltage and current output signals can be combined, with galvanic isolation available for the individual signals.

Efficient: Multiple measuring channels can reduce the number of sensors required for an application.

Reliable: Galvanically isolated output signals support redundant system architectures or the supply of two independent systems.
