NORINET pilot project with North Star Shipping Ltd.

In July 2018, the Scottish shipping company North Star Shipping Ltd. and NORIS Group GmbH started the NORINET pilot project on the emergency rescue and recovery vessels (ERRV) „Grampian Courageous“. The Grampian Courageous is the first vessel that will be equipped with the new cloud-based solution for remote monitoring and data analytics from NORIS.

The hardware that was already delivered in August 2018 will soon go online. From then on, a secure VPN connection for programming purpose is implemented from the cloud server to the ERRV vessel. Together with Marine Services Ltd., the Scottish partner of NORIS, preliminary talks took place to clarify the desires and requirements from North Star Shipping regarding the functionality of NORINET and a tight schedule was established: In phase 1, the NORINET Dashboard will be integrated into the cloud service. It shows important navigation data, vessel status and engine information. In phase 2, further applications will be installed for monitoring vessel’s performance, creating customised reports, viewing fleet information and condition and diagnostics tools. After the successful completion of the project, further vessels of the North Star Shipping fleet should be equipped with the NORINET cloud solution.

Both companies benefit from this pilot project. NORIS gains important experience and knowledge in this field trial and North Star Shipping Ltd. will get a tailor-made and cost-effective solution and may significantly influence the functionality of the NORINET applications. „The market entrance with cloud-based software solutions is an important step in the history of our company. With NORINET, we will significantly increase the benefit for our clients and furthermore, our company will act more independent from the volatile new building business.” said Felix Weiss, Head of Sales Marine of the NORIS Group GmbH.
