Maiden Cruise of SH Vega

NORIS on board of the new hybrid ship

Finally: Maiden cruise of SH Vega starts in July: The second hybrid ship of the Swan Hellenic cruise line also has our NORISTAR 4 on board!

On July 20, 2022, SH Vega will set sail in Tromsø, Norway. The first destination of the trip is Bear Island, after which the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard will be circumnavigated. For 11 days, passengers will explore glaciers, icebergs and pack-ice sheets seen only in this part of the world. In addition to the icy wilderness, the animal population is also worth seeing, Svalbard is home to polar bears, reindeer and arctic foxes.

Two years ago, we had a post about SH Minerva, the sister ship of SH Vega, which set off on its maiden cruise to Antarctica at the end of 2021. Both ships were built at the Helsinki shipyard and are specially designed for voyages to the polar regions.

This is where hybrid propulsion comes into its own: Battery packs can be used to control the propeller motor electrically, which means the ship can move slowly and quietly, to avoid harming the ecosystem. Both ships are equipped with our NORISTAR propulsion control system as well as emergency order telegraphs.

We are glad to be part of these extraordinary ships and that our solution is used for environmentally friendly hybrid propulsion.
